The beautiful historic Hernando is one of the most charming towns in the Mid-South area. It’s located in the heart of DeSoto County just 20 minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee. About a decade ago Hernando joined approximately a dozen other Mississippi communities in the Main Street Program. Administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation its goal is to reserve, promote and enhance downtown areas of historic communities. Its success has brought new businesses to the area and given a new spirit of community pride in the beautification throughout the town.

Filled with dozens of antique and gift shops, professional services, retail businesses and restaurants it’s a town that knows what’s important for people who care about their community. It boasts award-winning schools, highly acclaimed parks, recreational programs, churches, civic clubs and the DeSoto Historic Museum.

Exhibits at the museum include the parlor of an antebellum mansion, an authentic log cabin, Civil War artifacts and other artifacts from DeSoto County’s history.

Throughout the year, Hernando Main Street and other local community organizations host events within the Main Street district. Many of these events such as the Hernando A’Fair, Celebration of Art and the Hernando Music & Heritage Festival, take place on the historic town square.
